For my paradigm shift presentation and paper, I have chosen to analyze how the relationship between horses and men has changed throughout history. In prehistoric ages, horses and men forged a symbiotic partnership in which horses are responsible for fundamental changes to human history, whether in a social, cultural, or political context. Within the invention of mobile transportation and the effects of globalization, horses have become modern day symbols of wealth or social status, forms of pop culture entertainment, and a means for making profit.

Paradigm Shift Argument: Horses and men are economically and culturally linked through human history, but within recent decades, this prehistoric, symbiotic partnership has evolved to today’s modern perspective in which horses are seen as a form of entertainment, symbols of wealth and social status, and a means for profit.

To further explore and research this topic I intend to utilize the following databases:

PSU Libraries
American Memory
Library and Archival Exhibitions on the Wen
BBC Special Reports
Times Topics
HistoryWorld
American Memory Digital History

To either narrow or broaden my search terms, I plan on using the following combinations:

horses in history
horses and humans
horses today
relationship of horses and humans
evolution of horses and humans
